Hublot is a Swiss luxury watchmaker founded in 1980 by Italian Carlo Crocco. The company operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of France’s LVMH. In 1980, it also marked the birth of the “Fusion” concept a few months after being founded. The history of the brand began in 1976 when Carlo Crocco, scion of the Italian group Binda watch manufacturer Breil, left the company to start his own business. After moving to Switzerland he formed the MDM Geneve group and began the study and design of Hublot watches, a name deriving from the French word porthole. These watches are inspired by the art of casting, that is the combination of different materials, such as gold and natural rubber, a material for which it took 3 years of studies and tests before being able to use it correctly on a clock. Although he had failed to attract a single customer on the day of his Baselworld 1980 debut, the watch was a commercial success with sales in excess of $ 2 millions in its first year.
